Employment Opportunites at MAB
FAQs
- Can I bring my partner?
- The temporary accommodation contains one double bed and is provided as a benefit for the employee only. However, each self contained studio apartment can accommodate a second person if necessary.
- Can I bring my family?
- The temporary accommodation provided contains one double bed only. This means that MAB does not support dependents in the accommodation. Applicants interested in bringing their family should do a careful analysis of the salary and the costs of living to determine if it is viable. Massachusetts can be more expensive to live in than some other parts of the country. Applicants should also take into consideration that their shift pattern will be assigned to them and we cannot predict in advance what it will be or how that will impact the need for childcare.
- Can in bring my pet?
- If you are confident that your pet can be left alone in a hotel room for the day while you are at training or work, you can make arrangements with the accommodation provider to bring them. There is an additional fee for pets, that MAB does not ay for and you will need to pay directly to the accommodation provider.
- Do I need a car?
- Most of our sites are not on a public transportation route. Shifts may end at inconvenient times. You will need to ensure that you are able to get to and from your work location. Uber/Lyft may be an option but can be unpredictable and get expensive pretty quickly. It is a challenge to not have a car upon arrival or soon after.
- Will I need to drive?
- All of our positions require you to drive participants to appointments and activities. This may be in a car, minivan, or wheelchair van. You will need a valid driving license to do this and will be required to obtain a Massachusetts license soon after your arrival.
- How long can I stay in the accommodation for?
- MAB will provide accommodation for you for the first two months for free. After that, you have the option to extend your accommodation for the next months at $125 a week. After this period you may choose to stay in the accommodation for a longer period. MAB has negotiated a preferential rate for you to be able to do this. The rate varies depending on the time of year and location. (Check our main webpage for special offers on accommodation that are offered from time to time).
- How do I find somewhere to live?
- Zillow rentals has lots of options. Other recruits who arrive at the same time as you will also be looking for accommodation. You may choose to share with one or two of your colleagues as a cheaper option. It is also a good idea to ask your Massachusetts colleagues about where to look for accommodation, as they will often have ideas. Accommodation is cheaper in Central MA than it is in Greater Boston.
- What areas do you recommend I live in?
- In order to be close enough to work and to be in an affordable but preferable neighborhood, we recommend looking in the following towns and communities (this is not an exclusive list and just because a community is missing from the list, does not mean that we would not recommend it).
- Greater Boston: Allston, Brighton, Brookline, Waltham, Watertown, Jamaica plain, West Roxbury, Roslindale, Dedham, Hyde Park, Natick, Framingham, Milton, Newton.
- Central MA: Worcester, Shrewsbury, Westborough, Northborough, Grafton, Boylston, West Boylston, Framingham, Natick, Southborough, Marlborough, Millbury, Auburn.
- What should I bring with me?
- Towels and linens are provided at the temporary accommodation, although you will need to provide your own when you find your own permanent accommodation. A car really helps, so you can get to and from work and explore your surroundings as public transportation is inconsistent. You will need enough money to tide you over until you get paid, which may take a few weeks depending on when you arrive in the pay cycle. You will also need money to set up your permanent accommodation when the time comes. Most importantly, bring an open mind and a sense of adventure.
- Will I fit in?
- Mab is a welcoming community with employees from many different backgrounds. We accept all employees without prejudice .
- Can I apply for a management position?
- All of the positions that we are recruiting for are entry-level positions and not management positions. However, many recruits have been promoted in the past if they have the skills and experience necessary.
- What is the level of commitment required?
- Due to extra expenses MAB incurs from national recruitment, we ask that you provide a minimum of a one-year commitment. We would be happy if you stayed longer. Our longest recruit has been with MAB for 20 years.
- Are there chances for promotion?
- Once you have worked in your initial position for six months, you are free to apply for other positions within MAB. MAB has a policy of promoting from within whenever possible and actively encourages internal applications for promotional opportunities from experienced candidates. MAB is an expanding organization and is adding new positions on a regular basis.
- What if I arrive and don’t like it?
- We recognize that this is not for everyone. Sometimes you may get here and discover that it is not for you. If you are not working for MAB, any accommodation or other benefits that you are receiving will cease.
- Can I work overtime?

- Will I be coming by myself?
- MAB tries to have groups of recruits arrive on the same day. You will initially live in the same location at the Extended Stay. You will complete parts of your initial training together so you will have opportunities to get to know each other. Groups of recruits tend to stay friends and some end up sharing accommodation.
- How many positions do you have to fill?
- We have more positions to fill than we have applicants. MAB is expanding and adding positions all the time.
- Can you introduce me to other employees?
- You can be provided with a buddy before arrival if you request it. You can also be provided with contact information for the people arriving at the same time as you. MAB has a private Facebook page just for National Recruits.
- Can I choose my arrival date?
- MAB offers arrival dates, not more than once a month. This is so your training and orientation are synchronized with other recruits. If you come early, you will need to arrange your own accommodation. This can be at the Extended Stay where you will remain for your training. It is not possible to arrive late as you will miss the essential parts of your training.
