Vocational Counselor

The Ivy Street School, part of MAB Community Services, is a year-round day and residential certified special education school for adolescents (13-21 years old) with mental health needs, autism spectrum disorder, acquired brain injuries and other neurological disorders. 

The Ivy Street School supports the principle that all people with disabilities should have the opportunity to work in their communities. We are seeking a full-time Vocational Counselor to support students at they prepare for and participate in employment.

Position Title: Vocational Counselor

Position Status: 40 hours per week; Core hours will vary and flexibility in schedule is a must to accommodate job site requirements, training needs and documentation. Hours vary Monday-Friday between the hours of 8:00 AM-7:00 PM. This position is intended for someone with year-round availability.

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Carry a caseload of students
  • Meet individually with students to support them in developing pre-employment skills (i.e. resume building, interview skills, etc.)
  • Complete vocational evaluations
  • Provide supervision, job coaching and coordination of on-grounds and community student employment to support skill development, perform task analysis, identify jobs site modifications and ensure that students satisfy the needs of the employer.
  • Collaborate with students’ team members and families through informal and formal meetings
  • Collaborate with community-based partners to develop and support student volunteer, intern and employment opportunities
  • Complete paperwork by deadlines including weekly documentation, IEP goals, IEP progress reports, progress reports for state agency treatment plans, etc.
  • Provide support to milieu when needed during crisis situations

This role requires flexibility, initiative, creativity, professionalism and compassion. The ideal candidate will be solution focused, highly adaptable and an excellent written and verbal communicator.

Requirements:

  • Entry level - Bachelor’s degree and experience with individuals with special needs and/or young adults
  • Experience in the vocational field is a plus.
  • Valid Massachusetts Driver’s License and clean driving record
  • CPR and First Aid certifications, training offered upon hire

Staff RN

The Ivy Street School is a division of MAB Community Services and serves as a year-round residential program and day school for adolescents and young adults with brain injuries, neurological disorders, autism, complex medical condition and mental health diagnoses.

We are seeking qualified Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse to promote and restore health of students with acquired brain injuries and other neurological disorders by providing direct nursing care along with physical or psychological support when required. New Graduates will be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Ordering, administering, and managing medications and controlled substances
  • Monitoring student medication changes and side effects
  • Providing training to staff in regards to specific protocols and policies for student illnesses
  • Providing health education and acting as a liaison with community physicians and health care providers
  • Monitoring and preparing medications needed for off grounds trips and home visits
  • Communicating with RN supervisor, clinicians, and other support staff about health concerns and medical incidents
  • Providing support for students’ needs during residential shift (and day shift if covering 7A-3P shift)

Requirements

  • MA nursing license
  • Valid MA driver’s license with clean driving record
  • Up-to-date CPR certification
  • Evening availability
  • One Holiday worked/year
  • Attend Monthly Supervision

Preferred

This is a part-time 12 hour/week position with shift coverage needed on Saturday and Sunday 2:30p-8:30p. There is also potential for additional hours with sick time and vacation coverage and based on program need.

Teaching Assistant (Full-Time, Part-Time and Relief)

Ivy Street School is a 766 Special Education School located in a residential neighborhood in Brookline, two blocks from Boston University. We serve adolescents ages 13-22 who have acquired brain injuries, autism spectrum and behavioral health disabilities.

We are seeking a bright, and energetic individual with excellent interpersonal skills to work as a Teaching Assistant in the classroom, under the supervision of the classroom teacher, assisting in the teaching of basic life skills, academic, language and cognitive skills, implementing behavior management plans and participating in the development of lesson plans. CPI training and orientation is provided and some of our students have behaviors that require occasional physical restraints or standing holds.

We are searching for full-time, part-time and Relief Teaching Assistants. The hours are varied between Monday-Friday from 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM

This position offers excellent experience for someone interested in pursuing a career in special education, psychology, social work or any human service field.

Requirements:

  • Driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certificates, or ability to become certified upon hire.
  • Some holiday shifts required.
  • Previous experience preferred, but not required.
  • BA/BS in related field strongly preferred.

Speech and Language Pathologist

The Ivy Street School is a small, year round, private residential school for adolescents ages 13-21 who have acquired brain injuries and other developmental, mental health and neurological disabilities.

We are currently seeking an experienced, certified Speech and Language Pathologist to provide speech language services to our students, administer assessments, develop IEP and treatment plan goals, track data and collaborate with our multidisciplinary team of professionals. This position is 10-16 hours per week with a flexible schedule.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Perform screening and evaluations to assess student strengths and needs
  • Complete IEP progress notes and reports
  • Provide individual and group treatment to promote skill development across educational, residential, and community settings in accordance with IEP requirements.  
  • Collaborate with the transition team, educational team and residential team to systematize transition programming to be consistent with best practice
  • Collaborate with student’s families to support the generalization of treatment into the home setting
  • Participate in the SPOT (OT, SLP, PT and Vocational) meetings at Ivy Street School
  • Attend and participate in Treatment Team and IEP meetings
  • Participate in the management of crisis as trained
  • Attend meetings and trainings as required

Requirements:

  • Master's Degree
  • MA licensure in Speech Language Pathology
  • Experience working with transition aged youth preferred
  • Experience in school and/or residential setting preferred
  • CPR and First Aid certification or ability to become certified upon hire

This position is a year round position, 10-16 hours Monday-Friday, flexible schedule.
